Biography

Alexander was born before 1691. He is the son of John Waugh and Elizabeth Madison. [1] He married Catherine Webb. The had a son Alexander Waugh (d. 1792) who married Sarah (unknown LNAB).[2] He died in 1744 in Orange County, Virginia.[3]

Abner Waugh born Jan 17, 1746 is the great grandson of John Waugh and Elizabeth Madison, the grandson of Alexander Waugh (d. 1722) and Catherine Webb, and the son of Alexander (d. 1792) and Sarah Waugh. The father (Alexander Waugh II) was a landowner and prosperous planter in Orange County, a vestryman of St. Thomas’ Parish and a justice of the peace of Orange County. The mother, identified as Sarah by her husband in his will was “connected either to Battaile or Taliaferro families or both”. The two clans were recognized members of the gentry.

1735: Its ordered that Alexander Waugh with the tithables in his precinct clear the Road from the Island ford into the Mountain Road that leads to the Mountain Church.[4]
