She was the daughter of Mary Wax and William Simpson. Ms. Wax was a member of Believers' Fellowship of the Assemblies of God.

A son, Mark Fields of New York; her brothers, Willie C. Simpson and Maurice Simpson both of Maryland and Grady D. Boyd of Spartanburg, SC; her sisters, Mary Ann Simpson of Maryland and Dorothy Mae Simpson Johnson of Washington, DC; and her granddaughter, Markia Fields of Spartanburg, SC.
