Biography

Elizabeth Wayland was born about 1825. She is believed to be the daughter of Jeremiah Wayland and [*]. See Research Note 1. She married William Pritchett on 20 February 1844 in Clark, Missouri. [1] Elizabeth died 12 May 1891.

The Canton Press (Canton, Missouri) 15 May 1891 p. 2, col. 2: Mrs. Wm. Pritchett, of Alexandria, died at her home in that city Tuesday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke sustained sixteen years ago. Deceased was a daughter of Jeremiah Wayland, one of the earliest settlers in Clark county. She leaves a husband and five children, Win and George Pritchett, of Alexandria, Mrs. J.H. Million, of Kahoka; Mrs. Jas. Gartrell, of Kirksville, and Mrs. Wm. Surry, of Keokuk.

Kahoka Gazette-Herald (Kahoka, Clark Co., Missouri) 15 May 1891 p. 4, col. 5: Mrs. W.H. Pritchett Sr. died Tuesday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m., after being afflicted with paralysis for 16 years. Death was a welcome messenger to close those long years of helplessness. She was aged 66 years. Rev. Minter preached the funeral discourse at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. A large relationship and many friends followed her remains to the St. Francisville cemetery, her last resting place, on Thursday.

Kahoka Gazette Herald (Kahoka, Clark Co., Missouri) 15 May 1891 p. 2, col. 1: The wife of Wm. Pritchett, Sr. and mother of Mrs. J.H. Million, of this city died at her home in Alexandria after many years of suffering, Tuesday, May 12, aged 66 years.

Weekly Graphic (Kirksville, Missouri) 5 May 1882 p. 3: Mrs. J.R. Gartrell left Thursday morning to attend an interesting marriage anniversary. Mr. Jerry Wayland and wife, of St. Francisville, Clark county, grandparents of Mrs. G., celebrate this week their sixtieth wedding day.
