Sampson, or Samson as his name is sometimes spelled, was born in 1812 in Cornwall. His parents were Sampson Wearne and Mary Barker.
Sampson married Wilmot Liddicoat in 1838. (A source is required for this). The couple appear, with their growing family, on the 1841 and 1851 Census living in St Erth. The 1851 Census shows his occupation as Copper miner.

Fact: Emigration (11 March 1854) Liverpool, England
Fact: Immigration (June 1854) Melbourne, Australia
In 1854 Sampson took the step of emigrating to Australia to go to the goldfields. He sailed without his wife, who remained in Cornwall, to Melbourne on board the Saldanha, a ship in the Black Ball line. The ship left Liverpool in March and arrived in Australia in June. Sampson was about 41 or 42 years old and travelled to take up work as a miner. There were over 600 passengers on board, most bound for Australia, and some for New Zealand.
At least two of his sons came out to Eaglehawk as well and worked there as miners but do not appear to have travelled at the same time as Samson. Thomas, for instance, was only 12 years old when his father went to Australia.
He passed away in 1869 aged 56. He died in Sailors' Gully in Eaglehawk, Victoria, far from most of his family. Samson could not read or write, and had made out his will with assistance shortly before his death (will was made out 27 January 1869). The executors of his will were sons John Samson Wearne and Thomas Wearne who, present at the signing of the will and at the time of taking up roles as executors, were also living in Eaglehawk.
