Biography
Prolific American actor, director, and professional American football linebacker, best known from his roles as Apollo Creed in the Rocky franchise, Colonel Al Dillon in Predator, Action Jackson in Action Jackson, Chubbs Peterson in Happy Gilmore and Little Nicky, Combat Carl in the Toy Story franchise, and Greef Karga in three seasons of The Mandalorian.
Born on 14 January 1948 in Uptown New Orleans,[1] Carl Weathers was the oldest of three children of Emanuel Weathers, Jr. and Agnes Mae Tennyson.[2] His father was a day laborer and his early life in New Orleans was difficult.[3] However, he earned an athletic scholarship to well-regarded St. Augustine Catholic High School, and was a noted all-around athlete involved in boxing, football, gymnastics, judo, soccer, and wrestling. He moved to California, and his college football career started in 1966 when he transferred to Long Beach City College to play defensive end.[4] However, an ankle injury sidelined him for the entire season. He transferred and played for San Diego State University, helping the Aztecs win the 1969 Pasadena Bowl.[5]
At San Diego State, Weathers went on to earn his master's degree in his true calling, theater arts.[6]
In the 1950 census Carl (age 2) was the grandson of Jane B Tennyson in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, United States.[7]
He married three times and had two children.[1]
Carl died (age 76) on 1 February 2024.[8][9][10]
His obituary was published in multiple newspapers.[11][12]
