John Weatherwax Sr migrated from New York to Michigan.

John Weatherwax Sr was a settler in Michigan before it became a state.

The son of John Weatherwax and Eliza "Betsy" Fulton (1791-), John was born in Peru Township in 1824. His family migrated to the Michigan Territory around 1833, settling in Lenawee County.[1] He married Margaret Ann Huyck (1828-1898), the daughter of T. Huyck and Miss Starks, in Michigan around 1850. Their children included:

  1. John C. Weatherwax, Jr. (1851-1924)
  2. Jacob Alexander Weatherwax (1853-1933)
  3. Minnie E. Weatherwax (1857-)
  4. Mae Elizabeth Weatherwax (1864-1960)
  5. Elizabeth E. "Bettie" Weatherwax (1868-)

They made their home in Adrian, where John worked as a carpenter.[2]

Private John Weatherwax Sr served in the United States Civil War.

John enlisted on February 23, 1864 and served for a year and a half as a Private with Company B of the 9th Michigan Volunteer Cavalry. He mustered out on July 21, 1865.[3][4]

After the war, he returned to Adrian.[5][6] He passed away there at the age of 84 and is buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Adrian.[7][8]
