Biography

The following biography was entered by long time Weaver researcher Jim Bass.

Some researchers believe William was the son of Peter Weaver and his 3rd or 4th wife, Elizabeth whose maiden name may have been "Porter". However, it is unlikely that Peter and Elizabeth were his parents as Elizabeth would have been almost 50 yrs old at the time of his birth. If he was related to this family, it is more likely that William was their grandson. More genealogical and DNA research needs to be conducted in order to truly know the identities of his parents.

He was known as "Barrett" and "Bartlett". Some researchers even call him "Bart".

He married twice: first to Jane (maiden name unknown) around 1857. She must have died after the 1860 Census, so he remarried in 1865 to Martha Bowers, the widow of Asa Brown who died in the Civil War. The 1865 marriage record in Hart Co., GA recorded her name as "Miss Martha Brown" but she brought children into the marriage who had the surname of Brown. These can be seen in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses in Hart Co., GA. She was mentioned in the will of her father, Job Bowers, with the name "Martha Weaver".

He had the following known children with his first wife, Jane:

  1. Liney E Weaver, 1858–
  2. William F. Weaver, 1859–1919
  3. Thomas Filmore "Phil" Weaver, 1862–1950

He had the following known children with his second wife, Martha:

  1. Sallie J. Weaver Bowers, 1867–
  2. Olive Weaver Gordon, 1869–
  3. Julia Weaver, 1879–

His death date is unknown, but the last census he appeared in was the 1880 Census, Hart Co., GA. His widow, Martha, was in the 1900 census with the surname "Phillips", so she must have remarried after he died and then was widowed again by 1900.

Conflation

Many online trees have conflated him with William B. Weaver of Early Co., GA. They were born around the same time, but the William B. Weaver (subject of this profile) was in Franklin Co., GA in 1860 while the other William B. Weaver was in Early Co., GA in 1860. William of Early Co., GA married Amanda Turner in 1866, Early Co., GA. These were 2 distinctly different men.
