William L. Weaver was a member of the Liberian senate and the founder of the town Edina, Liberia.
William L. Weaver was born free about 1794. He emigrated to Liberia on the Ship Cyrus’s Company which arrived at Monrovia 13 Feb 1824. He was recorded on the Roll of Emigrants as 30 years old and traveling with his wife Chistenia, and children Duncan (6), Elizabeth (4) and infant Cyrus. He was able to read and write, and his occupation at the time was barber. He eventually made it to Grand Bassa where he supervised the establishment of the settlement. He founded the town of Edina, named for Edinburgh, Scotland in recognition of the kindness of its people to the people of Liberia. He was a member of the Liberian senate 1847-1849.[1]
