Julia was born on 10 July 1850 in Southwark, London[1]. By 1861, the family had moved to Burslem, Staffordshire where her father was a clerk, then accountant, in an earthenware manufacture.
In 1871, they were living at in Hanley, a district of Stoke-on-Trent, where Julia was teaching dancing at a Ladies College.[2]
She married Dr. Samuel Johnson at St. Peter's Church on Stoke on 14 Sept. 1876[3]. They had 8 children between 1877 and 1888.
By 1921, she had moved to Wimbledon with her daughter Kathleen.[4] She passed away on 23 Jan 1931 in Wimbledon[5].
