Of interest: "The subject of show and extravagance at our funerals has for a number of years caused me much thought, feeling and I believe is right to express my mind in regard to my internment. It is my will that my coffin shall be made of hard wood, neat, without ornamentation, with flat lid and glass on the face, black handles and common screws and if a hearse be obtained for the occasion, I desire it to be an inexpensive one. In regard to my grave, I will there should be no monument except a plain stone, this is all that marks my parents resting place and the injunction appears to be much needed today. Honor thy Father and Mother that thy days may be busy in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, a command which I have felt for many years as an indisputable duty to fulfil..."
