The family Bible of James Jr. and Elizabeth (Pennington) Webb shows James was born 15 May 1787. This birth date is within range of what is reflected in the 1790 and 1800 Wilkes County NC. Census, So this date will be used as his actualy birthdate. He was the son of James Webb and Elizabeth Nelson. He died sometime between 9 Dec 1849 when he gave permission for the marriage of his daughter, Abigail; and 1 June 1850 (census day) when his wife appeared in the census as head of household. [1]
Research Notes
The Find a Grave memorial for James Webb is somewhat spurious, as it is not based on an actual burial. It does, however, have family information copied from a family Bible with birth dates of James and Elizabeth Webb and their children. This, too, must be used with caution.

Webb-26196 and Webb-16743 do not represent the same person because: The parents of this James Webb, the death date, and his wife's name are all incorrect. James Webb of Floyd. Letcher County, Kentucky was not a son of John Webb and Mary Boone
Webb-23829 and Webb-16743 do not represent the same person because: This is part of a decades long multifaceted disagreement on the origins of this James Webb and his father James Webb. My profile reflects the grandson of John and Mary (Boone) Webb origins. Also, I have yet to see primary source documentation of the never-proven middle names of Franklin or Crittenden.
Completely agree re middle names. Few people had them at that time. The middle name in a tree usually indicates that two persons have been combined, or that a new researcher has assumed a middle name based on the name of a child or grandchild. I have removed "Franklin." The two sources that contain a middle initial show different information. The first (permission to marry) could be a clerical error. The second is in a death record, and is the recollection of one of James Webb's granddaughters who never knew him.
