John Webb is a part of US Black heritage.

Descendant
Descendant of Aaron Burr, Third Vice President.

John G. Webb was most likely born in 1823, though birth information varies from one source to the next. [1] [2] [3] He declared his birthplace as Pennsylvania.

John's parents were Francis Webb and Louisa Burr. His maternal grandfather, notable Aaron Burr, served as the 3rd vice president of the United States. [4]

John had three sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Mary. [5] A younger brother Frank J Webb was the author of "The Garies and their Friends" (1857). [6] [7] [8]

Generally John G. Webb is described as 'Mulatto' in records, but he is also described as 'Black'.

He married Annie Wood in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1854. [6] She was the daughter of a Black woman freed from slavery (Edy Wood), and a white landowner from North Carolina (James C Johnston).

John worked as barber or hair dresser; he also did some farming. [9]

John and Annie's children are

  1. Edith, born about 1856 in Pennsylvania, named after her maternal grandmother; [10]
  2. Eugenia, born about 1857 in Pennsylvania or New Jersey; [11]
  3. John, born about 1863 in Pennsylvania; [12]
  4. Miriam, born about 1865 in Pennsylvania; [13]
  5. Charlotte Cordelia, born about 1869 in Philadelphia; named after her cousin Charlotte Forten Grimké; [14]

They may also be the parents of Annie Webb, born about 1865, and Ada Webb, born about 1872.

John G Webb passed away January 17th 1904 in Philadelphia. He was buried January 22nd at Eden Cemetery in Darby. [1]
