James served as a private in the North Carolina militia ,under Col.Caswell, and participated in the Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge. On June 20,1778, he was drafted from the militia into the 10th North Carolina Regiment,Continental Army under Capt.Bradley,and participated in the Battle of White Plains
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
