Clara was born on 31 March 1846 in Camberwell, Surrey (a district of South London) and was baptized 12 July 1846 at Christ Church Camberwell.[1] She was the daughter of James Webb and Clara Kent.
Her family moved to Staffordshire by 1861 and she married John Slater, an artist, in Wolstanton Staffs on 18 July 1867. She had seven children born alive, but only one outlived her.
She passed away on 24 Aug 1926 at Rock Cottage in Leek Staffs where she lived with her youngest daughter, Clara, and her husband, Harry Turner. Her daughter died a few months later in childbirth at age 42.
