Biography

William Webb or Webbe; was Christened 26 Dec 1691; in Ozelworth,Gloucester,England[1]; son of Richard Webbe and Elizabeth[2]

William married on 22 January 1709/10 in Kennett, Chester Co., Pennsylvania to Rebecca Harlan; born 8-17-1688; died 8-17-1775; daughter of George Harlan "The Immigrant" and Elizabeth Duck[3][4]

William was a farmer in Kennet township, a Justice of the Peace; member of the Assembly, and active in Public Affairs.[1]

In March, 1713, William's father-n-law (George Harlan), deeded 203 acres of land for consideration of £30 pounds; 1 year prior to his death[5]; where exactly this land was located is not clear. George Harlan was of Brandywine, Kennet Township, Chester Co., Pa., at the time of his death in July of 1714 [6] Alpheus Harlan says in the summer of 1686; George, Thomas and James Harlan, purchased land in the province of Pennsylvania, in what is now present New Castle Co., Delaware. In 1687, George with his wife and 4 children; his brother Michael emigrated from Belfast, to the town of New Castle; where they stayed until 1698/99.[7]In 1701, George Harlan obtained a warrant for 200 acres of land located in the "Great Bend" of the Brandywine; Kennet township (now Pennsbury) previously occupied by Indians, "in regard for the great trouble and charge he had borne in fencing and maintaining the same for said Indians while living thereon"[8]George moved his family further up the Brandywine Creek (also called Brandywine River); settling on land in Kennet township; now Pennsbury township; close to present town Centervlle or Centrville, Chester Co., Pennsylvania.[7]

In 1729 William Webb signed as having subscribed to the appraisal of a true & perfect inventory of Ye goods & Chattels & Credits both Real & Personal of Ye estate of Michael Harlan deceased taken & appraised by us hereunder subscribed this ___day of ____Anno Dominie one thousand seven hundred & Twenty nine;[9]and on April 25, 1729, William Webb witnessed the signatures of Michael Harlan Sr., and Michael Harlan Jr., indenture for the lease of 150 acres of land[10]

William and Rebecca had one child;[1]

William Webb, Sr., died Nov 4, 1753, in Kennet Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania (now Pennsbury); and is buried at the Kennet's Friends Burial Ground; previously known as Old Kennet Meeting House[1][12]

I am unsure of the surname of his mother Elizabeth. I know she died in England. On a duplicate profile a contributor put another spouse for Richard, that has been unverified as of yet. I am not sure her spouse is this Richard Webb.
