Biography

Zela Webb aka Zela Parkins was born in December 1864 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England to George Henry Webb and Frances Ann Parkins.

Zela Webb, daughter of George Henry Webb & Frances Ann Webb, was christened on 24 Dec 1864 at Holy Trinity, Birkenhead.[1] At the time she resided at 44 Price Street, Birkenhead.

There is no record of Zela's parents' marriage, and no birth registration for Zela - it is likely that they were not legally married. Zela's parents had two more children together - Cecil Frederick (1865-1865) and Cecil Frederick (1868-1924) - and then separated. Zela's mother remarried in 1870.

In 1871 Zela Webb (age 7, Scholar) lived at 108 White Rock Street in West Derby, Lancashire with her father George H (37, Surgeon Dentist), uncle Frederick (31, Stock & Share Broker), brother Cecil (3), and visitor Sarah Wentworth (19).[2] [Her father is listed as a widower on this census, but there is no death record for her mother.]

Zela's father married Sarah Rushton Westworth in 1871. Sarah passed away in 1879.

In 1881 Zelo Webb (age 17, Scholar) lived at 12 Brougham Terrace in Everton, Lancashire with her father George H (44, Surgeon Dentist MD De) and four younger siblings: Cecil F (13, Scholar), George H (9, Scholar), Lucy G (7, Scholar), and Gertrude M (5, Scholar), as well as servant Annie Gamion (23).[3]

Zela Parkins married Robert John Westworth on 31 Aug 1882. The marriage was registered in West Derby in the third quarter of the year.[4] Robert was the brother of Zela's late stepmother Sarah Rushton Westworth.

Zela and Robert had seven children:

  1. Ernest Albert Westworth (1883-)
  2. Alfred Sutton Westworth (1885-)
  3. Robert J Westworth (c1888-)
  4. Margaret Storey (Westworth) Lawler (1890-1980)
  5. Frederick James Westworth (1892-)
  6. Charles Henry Westworth (1895-)
  7. Walter Victor Westworth (1897-)

In 1891 Zela Westworth (age 27) lived at 168 Fountains Road in Kirkdale, Lancashire with her husband Robert John (29, Dentist) and four children: Ernest A (7), Alfred S (5), Robert J (3), and Margaret S (1).[5]

In 1901 "Nela" Westworth (age 36) and her son Walter V (4) were boarders at 67 Brookdale Road in Wavertree, Lancashire.[6] Her husband Robert J Westworth (age 48, Dentist) was a prisoner in Walton on the Hill, Lancashire.[7] Family folklore says that Robert was in Hornby Prison for committing fraud.

Family history also says that their sons were at Penn Street Boys Industrial School in Birmingham, and that Zela kept daughter Margaret with her (although she does not appear on the 1901 census). Their younger sons were indeed recorded as inmates at Penn Street in Aston, Warwickshire on the 1901 census: Robt Jas (13, Shoemaker), Fredk J (7), and Charles Hy (5). Zela's two older sons were employed: Ernest Albert Westworth (17, Mechanical Dentist) was a boarder at Andrew Street in Walton on the Hill; and Alfred Westworth (15, Barman) lived with his employer at Breckfield Road North in Everton.

In 1911 Zela Westworth (age 46) lived at 7 Fitzgerald Road, Old Swan, Liverpool with her son-in-law Thomas G Lawler (26, Insurance Clerk), daughter Margaret Storey Lawler (21), and three Lawler granddaughters: Ellen Veronica (4), Beatrice Mary (2), and Edith Margaret (1), as well as boarder Esther Jane Roberts (64).[8]

Zela and Robert Westworth most likely divorced at some point, as she remarried before his death.

Zelia Westworth married Robert Lee on 7 Nov 1931 in Holywell, Flintshire, Wales. The marriage was registered in Holywell in the last quarter of the year.[9]

Descendant Anthony Lawler recalled visiting Zela in 1936 at a pub call The Rock in Holywell (on road A5026) - Anthony told this to Kevin Lawler circa 2000.

Zilia Lee passed away on 10 Feb 1937, aged 73 years. The cause of death was a combination of myocardial degeneration, bronchitis, and influenza. Her death was registered in Holywell in the first quarter of the year.[10]

Webb-6108 and Webb-1296 appear to represent the same person because: As I have earlier proposed the merge of Frances Ann Parkins, so too am I proposing the merge of Zela Webb. I trust you find the information similar as I do.
