Biography

Richard Crittenden Webb was born in 1736, son of William Warren Webb (~1699 - 1783) and Mary Jane Elizabeth (Crittenden) Webb (1702 - 1768).

This indenture made the 4th April 1795 between Richard Crittenden Webb and Richard Lancaster of Orange County executors to the estate of Daniel Singleton deceased of the one part and Richard Bennett Webb of the other part witness for sum one hundred forty pounds have granted unto said Richard Bennett Webb and his heirs 208-acres in Orange County on the west side of the Mine Run and bounded by the lines of George Grasty, deceased, John Moore, William Robinson, John Lancaster, Pierce Perry deceased, John Wells and the said Richard Bennett Webb. Signed Richard C. Webb and Richard Lancaster in the presence of John Wright, William Wright, George Bledsoe, and Jesse Bennett Webb at a court held for Orange County the 27th April 1795 this indenture order to be recorded.

September 7th 1822... Will of Richard C. Webb: Leg: I give to my son William B. Webb my surveying instruments and the tract of land he lives on, to my two sons Jesse and Richard B. Webb tract of land I live on, tract of land in Kentucky, in the county of Montgomery I lend to my daughter, Ann Perry.That Mary Grasty, Morton, and Delilah Perry to have twenty-five pounds at their mother's death of the part allotted my daughter Ann Perry. Appoint my two sons, Jesse and Richard B. Webb, executors this 7th day of September 1822. Signed, Richard C. Webb in the presence of George Proctor, Thomas Proctor, Hezekiah Richards, Edmund Lancaster.At a court held on 27th January 1823 proven and ordered to be recorded. Richard B. Webb came into court and refused: the motion of Jesse B. Webb with Richard B. Webb, James Nelson, and Richard Richards his securities bond in the penalty of fifteen thousand dollars.

Richard Crittenden Webb, son of William Webb, was a surveyor. On June 2 7, 1777 he appeared before the court of Orange County and produced his commission from the masters of the College of William and Mary appointing him the surveyor of the county. According to Scott's History of Orange County, he was a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
