Betsey Webber was born to Benjamin and Betsey (Webber) Webber on 29 Apr 1782 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts.[1] Her mother was the daughter of Ignatius and Elizabeth (Stuart) Webber[2]
She married Robert Elwell, 4th, also of Gloucester on 11 Dec 1802.[3]
Betsey Elwell died of "lung fever" in Gloucester on 9 Feb 1858.[4]
Research Notes
There are three marriage records that specify Robert Elwell, 4th:
Jan 1801 to Betsy Brown
Dec 1802 to Betsey Webber
Dec 1824 to Dorcas Day
Using the date of the first marriage mentioned, we might suppose that Robert was born in 1780, In fact, the records of Gloucester births yield a Robert born to Robert, 3d on 8 May 1780. …. And that his first wife died soon after marriage.
Date works for our thesis
This Robert is the son of Robert, 3d, so that works for our naming pattern
Unable to find a document that confirms this thesis
There is a record of
a James, son of Robert, bp Mar 1804,
a Betsey, dau of Robert, b. 1806,
a Lydia, dau of Robert and Betsey, bp. 11 Sep 1811,
Sarah Haskell, dau of Robert, bp. 6 Sep 1817.
There is also a Robert, Jr." having children in the late 20's and 30's with a woman named Dorcas, and a Robert with no suffix marrying and having a child or two before 1801.
