She married Joseph Skinner on 23 Dec 1819 in Richland, Ohio.[2]
Mahala's husband Joseph appeared in the 1840 census [3] in New Haven, Huron, Ohio. The household had two adults and five children including two boys and three girls. Given what can be seen on the FindAGrave Memorial, one might expect three boys, but one of the boys who appears on that site Ezra Skinner (1828-1861) does not appear to be the son of Joseph. Instead, he is seen in the 1850 census with father, Alfred. That said, the two adults in this census report are both in the 20-29 year old range, with one being male and one female. This is consistent with the ages of Joseph who may have been 29 and turned 30 during the year, and Mahala who would have been 28 that year. The children were:
Male, under 5, consistent with Joseph Jr., born 1827
Male, 5-9, consistent with Wealthy T., b. 1824
Female, under 5, consistent with Hila or Ellen, b. 1830
Female, 5-9, consistent with Sarah Ann, b. 1821
Female, 5-9, consistent with Lucy, b. 1822
According to the 1880 census,[4] Mahala was living with her daughter Ellen Morse and seven children ranging in age from 18 to 16. Both women were widowed at the time.
Mahala died on 6 Sep 1880 at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 7 days in Lasalle, Monroe, Michigan. Cause of death is listed as old age.[1]
