Biography

John was born in 1839 in Alabama. Based on birthplaces of siblings on the 1850 census, his family moved to Illinois around 1843; in 1850 they were in Jefferson County, Illinois.

John's first marriage was to Matilda Cochran in 1857.[1] In 1866 he married Mahala Boykin.[2]

Between 1878 and 1880 John and Mahala moved with their children to Missouri; they were living in Carter County in 1880. By 1900 they were living in Oak Grove Township in Oregon County, Missouri; John is buried in Oregon County.

He and Mahalia raised his children from his first marriage along with his children with Mahalia.

He passed away in 1904.
