Biography

Amy Elizabeth Webber was born in 1876 in Exeter, Devon, England to Samuel Webber and Susannah Scott (Rayment/Raymont) Webber. Her birth was registered in St Thomas, Devon in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Rayment.^[1]

Amy Elizabeth Webber, residing at Sandy Gate Heavitree, daughter of Samuel, a farmer, & Susannah Scott, was baptised on 1 Nov 1876 in Heavitree, Devon.^[2]

In 1881 Amy Elizabeth Webber (age 4, Scholar) lived at 17 Albert Road in Reading St Giles, Berkshire with her father Samuel (34, Gas Works Labourer), mother Susannah S (39), sister Ada Jane (3), and brother Walter (1).^[3]

In 1891 Amy E Webber (age 14, General Servant / Nursemaid) lived at 8 The Mount in Reading in the household of her employer John L Hawkins Jr.^[4]

Amy and her husband emigrated to Canada in 1903: A.F. Ambrose (24, Decorator) and Mrs Ambrose (27, Wife) sailed aboard the ship Bavarian which departed from Liverpool, England on 2 Jul 1903, bound for Quebec, Canada - their intended destination was Winnipeg.^[7]

In 1906 Ama Ambrose (age 30) lived at 776 Arlington St in Winnipeg with her husband A (28) - five others lived in the same household: Francis Slittle (28), Emily Slittle (27), Frank Slittle (10), Sim Welin (20), and Earnest Pilgrim (20).^[8]
