Recently celebrating her 85th birthday, Jewel was born Mar 7, 1917 to Harry and Paula Weber in Dawson, OK (which later became Tulsa). She had a brother, Russell Weber and a sister, Edith Spyres, both preceded her in death. She was married for 57 years to Ed Torbett, who passed away in 1992. Jewel was a dedicated friend and greatly enjoyed all her many friends over the years, including her lifelong friend, Winifred McGill, who turned 85 the day Jewel passed away. Jewel always involved herself with many projects, starting a scholarship in high school Girl Scouts with her daughters, many church projects and numerous clubs and charities. Jewel is survived by her daughters, Kay Torbet Spyres of Ft Wayne, IN; Carol Torbet Scannell and husband, Mike of Hurst, TX; Kathy Torbet Thomas and her husband, Jim of Elizabeth, CO; her grandchildren, Scott Scannell, Deanne Barreto, and Terry Spyres; her five great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held, Friday, June 21, 2002 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, 10600 N. Council, with burial to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Jewel enjoyed her family and friends until the day she died.
