Biography

Early Years

Ernest Edward Weber was born October 21st, 1899 in Hector, Renville County, Minnesota[1][2][3][4]. He was the ninth child born to George Weber[5][6][7] and Louise Reusswig[5][6][7].

Ernest came into a large family with seven older siblings (one of his siblings, a baby brother, died the day after birth - before he was born[8][9]). His older living brother and sisters were:

Before Ernest had turned one (in 1900), the large Weber family moved to Donnybrook, Ward County, North Dakota[5][26] where he was joined by his last three siblings:

Ernest Weber was a North Dakotan.
Ernest spent the rest of his childhood living in Ward County, learning to farm[36][37] amongst the three towns of Donnybrook, Carbondale, and Aurelia (all within 10 miles of each other)[6][7].

In March of 1914 (at 14yo), Ernest attended his sister Katherine's wedding on their parents Homestead in Aurelia, North Dakota[38]. It was the last time the family would be all together for many years to come[38].

Military

In 1918, Ernest joined the North Dakota Military Men headed for World War I[3][37].
Private First Class Ernest Weber served in the United States Army in World War I
Service started: 08 Jan 1918
Unit(s): Air Service Signal Corps, 324th Aero Squadron, 84th Aero Squadron
Service ended: 27 Jul 1919
On January 8th, he officially enlisted and was sent to the Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, Missouri[37]. Immediately thereafter, he was sent to Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas where he joined the Air Service Signal Corps[37]. From November 1918 to March 1919, Ernest continued at Kelly Field, joining the 324th Aero Squadron[37]. After, he joined the 84th Aero Squadron before being discharged as a private on June 27th, 1919[3][37].

Family Life & Work

After leaving the military, Ernest moved back onto his parents Homestead in Carbondale (Aurelia), North Dakota[39]. He stayed there until the entire family migrated West to Silverton, Marion County, Oregon (by 1922)[40][41].

Back to Work
In 1927, Ernest had managed to injure himself and travelled to the veterens hospital in Tacoma, Washington for treatment[42]. He healed quickly though! A month later, he took a job in Washington picking apples, yielding more than 1700 boxes over the month long gig[43].

A few years later in 1930, Ernest was working as a Mail Carrier living in Portland, Oregon[44][45][46][47] . There he met and wed his wife (Katie Keller) on November 1st, 1930[45][48]. The following year, they welcomed their first child (Richard Elden Weber)[49].

Ernest & Katie Weber

Over the years, Ernest both visited and was visited by his close family:

  • In 1935, he attended the celebration of his parents, George Weber and Louise Reusswig, 50th Golden Wedding Anniversary in Silverton, Oregon[38].
  • In 1935, shortly after his parents celebration, Ernest was visited by his sisiter, Pearl, and brother, George, and their families at his home in Portland, Oregon[50].
  • In 1938, Ernest was visited by his father, George, while he was receiving treatment in Portland, Oregon for his heart[51].

In 1942, Ernest Edward Weber registered for the 1942 Military Draft but was not required to serve[52][53].

Research Notes

  • There is another Son that was born around 1940 that is believed to still be living. His information has been withheld for privacy.
  • I think it's possible that Ernest worked as a Mail Carrier well past 1940 but I wasn't able to find evidence to prove or disprove that fact.
