According to Little, "He was a captain of the war of 1812. He became one of the original settlers of Durham, Maine, the number of his lot being 89, and his farm was cleared by him from the unbroken forest; he also engaged in the manufacture of plows; ox yokes; and other implements for the use of farmers. He married Hannah, daughyter of John and Elizabeth (Dunning) Stackpole, sister of his brother Joseph's wife, who died at Durham, June 29, 1851."
