Jane was the last child of Charles and Mary Ann (Harwood) Wedge. She was baptised on 14 September 1842, at the parish church of Burrough Green, where her father was the rector[1].

Nineteen year old Jane is listed as living with her family of origin in Burrough Green in the 1851 Census, along with three siblings and three servants [2].

On 24 February 1863, Jane married Hugh Robson Evans at Burrough Green parish church, Where Jane's father was the rector. The marriage was by Banns, and a first marriage for both Hugh and Jane. Hugh's occupation is recorded as "gent", his father was Hugh Robert Evans, a solicitor [1]

In June 1865, two children of Jane and Hugh Evans - Frances William Ernest and Margaret Eleanor Constance - were baptised at St Mary and St Eanswythe's Church, Folkestone, Kent. Hugh's occupation is recorded as gentleman, and their residence as Folkestone. [2]

By 1867, Hugh and Jane were in Jersey, Channel Islands. There, their children Mary Harriet (1867), and Robert Cecil Harwood (1869) were born and baptised. [3]

At the time of the 1871 Census, Jane and Hugh and their family were living at Tything of Whistones, north of Worcester. In the home were four children aged 7 to 2 years old and one servant. Hugh is recorded as a retired military officer. [4]
