Jonas Weed II was born 1 Feb 1647, in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. His parents were Jonas Weed I and Mary Unk. He married Bethia Holly 16 Nov 1676, in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Jonas Weed II passed away 17 Nov 1704, in Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
Jonas Weed was born "say" 1645, according to Anderson.[7] He was the son of Jonas Weed and Mary Unknown.[7] Only one of Jonas and Mary's children's births were recorded. but Jonas Weed and family first settled at Watertown, then by 1635 at Wethersfield, and by 1642 at Stamford, Connecticut.[7]
There is confusion about the two Jonas Weed families both of Stamford and both with wives named Mary. The earlier family was this Jonas Weed's. Jonas's mother was neither a Scofield nor a Hoyt. For more information, please see the profiles of his parents.
Jonas married on 16 Nov 167[0] at Stamford, Connecticut to Bethia Holly [TAG 11:33 citing Stamford TR 1:113]. Apparently the year was missing in the original record, as shown in TAG 11:33. Anderson chose to interpret the missing date as 1670, possibly because the record contains several entries with missing years, and they were between entries dated 1669 and 1672.[8] Other publications have differed in their interpretation and called the year 1676.[9] [10] [11]
Jonas became a shoemaker as well as a leading citizen of Stamford.[13] He was elected for eleven terms as selectman; first term was in 1680.[13]
Jonas passed away on 29 November 1697 in Stamford, Connecticut.[citation needed]
Note: Barbour Index does not show a Jonas Weed died on this day at Stamford.[12]
Inventory was taken on 10 January 1704/5 His wife Bethia and chldren were mentioned in his will, sons: Jonas, Benjamin, and Jonathan "five months short of age," and daughter Abegaile aged 10 years.
Bunce reports only the first four children, Jonas, Benjamin, Jonathan, and Abigail, but the Stamford Town Record specifically calls John, Miles, Sarah, and Nathan children of Jonas, the shoemaker. Apparently the oldest four were the children mentioned in Jonas's will. Possibly he mentioned only those children who were "of age" at the time.

A1.) The wife of this Jonas Weed (1746-1704, Father Jonas Weed, mother Mary Scofield) is Bethia Holly (1654-1713,Father John Galen Holly, mother Mary Agnes Waitsill).
A2a.) They had a daughter named Bethia Weed (1686-1704) who probably was not married.
A2b.) They also had a daughter named Abigail Weed (1695-1780) who married Jeremiah Scofield (1691-1762, father Richard Scofield, mother Ruth Brundish or Brundage.
B1.) Jeremiah Scofield (1691-1762) and Abigail Weed (1695-1780) had a daughter named Bethia Scofield.
B2.) This Bethia’s maiden name was Scofield, and the trees so far that have her married to Edmund Lockwood seem to be incorrect by virtue of name spelling and place of origin.
C1.) The Wikitree person Bethia (Holly) Scofield, ID Holly-953 does not exist. C2.) No one by that name married any of the Jonas Weed(s). C3.) I made the mistake of creating her while I was in a hurry and got the Holly, Weed and Scofield names mixed up for her – I was totally wrong – but can not seem to un-create her. C4.) The citation of The History of the Families of Old Fairfield, Vol 1, Surnames G-I, page 290 is for Bethia Holly who married Jonas Weed but it does not give the name Scofield. It only says this at the very bottom of the page: "Bethia [daughter of John Holly], d. at Stamford, 24 Dec. 1713; m. 16 Nov 167__, Jonas Weed."
C7.) The citation The Great Migration Begins on bottom of page 1958 does talk about the variance in the “two” Jonas Weed men being only one man. And at the top is the reference to the Bethia Holly I meant to enter (marrying Weed, not Scofield) as follows: "JONAS, b. say 1645; m. 16 November 167(0) Bethia Holly [TAG 11:33, citing Stamford TR 1:113]"
C6.) I had all my references and trees out and looked at the wrong name when I created her – my bad, my total bad.
