Biography

Edith Ione Weed was born 1 May 1867 in Menomonie, Dunn Co, WI, daughter of Alphonzo David Weed and Hannah Jane (Harding, Roach) Weed.

In 1870 she was living with her parents and grandparents in Jefferson, Jefferson Co, WI.[1] In 1880 she was living with her parents in Elk Point, Union Co, Dakota Territory (her grandparents were living in a separate household nearby).[2]

She married Amos Smith Brown 30 Mar 1888 in Alcester, Union Co, Dakota Territory. Edith Ione and Amos Smith soon moved to LeMars, Plymouth Co, IA, where four children (Benjamin Alfonso, Luman Nelson, Ida Viola and Loren) were born. Their fifth child (Albert Sidney) was born in 1898 in Mitchell, Davison Co, South Dakota. They were living in Blendon Twp, Davison Co, SD at the time of the 1900 U.S. Census.[3]

In 1906 the family moved first to Burlington, Kit Carson Co, CO, then to Lenora, OK, and finally back to South Dakota.

Edith Ione and her husband, Amos Smith Brown, lived in Palatine, Aurora Co, SD, at the time of the 1910 U.S. Census;[4] in Firesteel, Aurora Co, SD, at the time of the 1920 U.S. Census;[5] and in Mount Vernon, Davison Co, SD, at the time of the 1930 U.S. Census.[6]

Her husband died in 1936 and in 1940 Edith Ione was living alone in Mount Vernon, Davison Co, SD.[7]

Edith Ione died 10 Sep 1952 in Sioux Falls, SD, and is buried in Mount Vernon City Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Davison Co, SD,[8] next to her husband, Amos Smith Brown.
