Biography

Sarah Weed

Sarah was born "say 1649" according to Anderson.[1] The family lived at Wethersfield beginning in 1635 and removed to Stamford in 1642. So she was probably born at Stamford, but her birth was not recorded there.

We do not know whether Sarah married, and if so, to whom she married. We do know that, despite some earlier researchers' claims, (C. A. Hoppin, in Washington Ancestry) Sarah, the daughter of Jonas Weed, did not marry David Waterbury, Benjamin Ferris, or Nathaniel Pond.[2]

Sarah was living on 26 November 1672, when she was mentioned in her father's will.[1]

According to this profile, Sarah died on November 20, 1697 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut (without evidence).[citation needed]

Research Notes

Which Sarah Weed did marry Waterbury, Ferris, and/or Pond?

The Stamford Vital Records show that on 11 August 1698, David Waterbury married to Sarah Weed.[3]

Prindle found the proof, in Book B of the Stamford Land Records (previously unpublished), that indeed the same Sarah Weed had married all three men. On 13 Sept 1711, Sarah Ferris mentioned her late husband, Benjamin Ferris, and also that she was as executrix for her "former husband, Leut. David Waterbury, deceased, Late of Stamford ..." [Bk B: 105]. On 28 Dec 1711, Sarah Pond of Stamford ... Executrix of the Last Will & Testament of Lieut. David Waterbury ... deceased know now yt I, the sd. Sarah Pond, as executrix, and with the consent of my Present Husband Nathaniel Pond ... [Bk B: 98].

On September 20, 1711, Sarah acknowledged receipt of her portion of her mother's estate.

I Sarah Ferris, widow and Relict to Benjamin Ferris, deceast, Late of Stamford, having Received of mr. Abraham Weed & Daniel Weed, my Brotheren, as administrators to the Estate of my Deceased mother, Ruth Clapp, all my part & portion of sd. Estate, doe hereby acquit & discharge my sd. Brotheren ... [Bk B: 88].

In this extract, we see that the Sarah who married Waterbury, Ferris, and Pond (not the Sarah of this profile) was a daughter of Ruth (Woods) Weed Clapp and Daniel Weed and the sister of Abraham and Daniel Weed.

Weed-1090 and Weed-45 appear to represent the same person because: Sarah does not appear to be on the Barbour Index for Stamford, so I am uncertain about her birth and death dates and will defer to your research. I am very certain these are the same people.

I think you need to check this. Sarah dtr of Jonas was b c 1649, husband unknown, death unknown. The Sarah who died 5 Jan was the wife of David Waterbury and child of Daniel Weed. Her Wikitree profile. I don't know weather 1716 or 1714 is correct year, without researching.

Weed-558 and Weed-45 appear to represent the same person because: Same name and parents. Birth date is a guess. Death dates differ, but research should resolve this, and it is not a reason to hold up a merge. Just include both dates in the edited bio.

If you agree, please approve. Thanks!
