Joseph seems to be the first born son of William and Anne (Wax) Weekes of Cangort Park, near Shinrone Co. Offaly. He spent his childhood on the estate and, since he was literate, he likely attended the school built by the Trench family by the Cangort Park gatehouse.
Joseph moved to Dublin sometime around the age of twenty and he remained in Dublin throughout his life. He became a carpenter and lived in city centre on Fade Street is a small street between Grafton St.and Dublin Castle.
At the age of thirty four Joseph married Catherine Jane Cahill, the daughter of Michael Cahill a Dublin tackle maker. They were married on October 4th 1856 at Saint Briget's Church. This is a Church of Ireland church so we can assume that Joseph remained a protestant..
One of their children, Charles Henry, sailed to Australia and began a large family there.
In 1894 Joseph died at the age of sixty-two. He had been living at 4 Lower Mercer Street Dublin. He was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in northern Dublin in a grave with with an Ellen Weekes of the same address who died at the age of fifty four earlier in 1894. (We are indebted to Marion Weeks of Melborne Australia for the information from Glasnevin cemetery above.)
