Biography

Alderson was a Baptist preacher who performed many marriages. He was the first to sign the compact in 1784, donated "one acre of land and a house built thereon for a place to worship, known as Bear-Branch." (September 1813, minutes.) and is believed to be the first pastor of North Fork Baptist Church in Purcellville, Loudoun Co., VA.^[1][2] He moved to Bedford County and is said to have been the first pastor of the Quaker Baptist Church in Salem but when he was there, it was a Quaker, not a Baptist Church. This was the Goose Creek Friends Meeting and was located where the Quaker Baptist Church is, near Difficult Creek. The last Quaker meeting there was July of 1814.^[3] He touched the lives of many Friends though, officiating over many marriages where one of the participants was Quaker.^[4]
