Biography

Edward N. Wegner, age 79, former village of Cleveland resident, went home to his Lord on Monday, February 22, 2010, at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born January 15, 1931 in Two Rivers, the son of the late Eldred and Viola Wilson Wegner. Edward graduated from Mishicot High School in 1948.

After high school, he joined the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, serving at Fort Sheridan, IL, with the Fifth Army Band. In 1951, he attended the U.S. Navy School of Music in Washington D.C. While in service, Edward received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

On May 21, 1955 Edward was united in marriage to Audrey Lubus at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Mishicot. The couple resided in Manitowoc. In 1968, they moved to Cleveland, WI. The marriage was blessed with four children. Audrey passed away April 19, 2005.

Edward worked for 41 years in various iron foundries. He did all kinds of jobs from general labor to supervision. His true passion in life was his music. He played trumpet, clarinet, and saxophone. He played with many polka bands including Romy Gosz, Tony Gosz, Joe Karmen, Zunkers Rhythm Boys and the Kings Men. He also played with the Green Bay Shrine Band for many years. He was very proud to play "TAPS" for military funerals for 60 years. Ed was a lifelong member of VFW Post 8974, Cleveland and a member of American Legion 88, Manitowoc.

Edward is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Wegner of Sheboygan and Joan (Sean) Beatty of Fishers, IN; two sons, Randy E. (Ann) Wegner and John E. (Cheryl) Wegner, both of Sheboygan; eight grandchildren, Tyler (Jenny), Mike, Emily, Andrea and Randy Wegner II, all of Sheboygan, Leah Beatty of Anderson, IN, Shannon Beatty of Bloomington, IN, Michaella Beatty of Fishers, IN; one great-granddaughter, Tillie Mae Wegner of Sheboygan; two brothers, Howard (Betty) Wegner of Kewaunee and Norman (Ruth) Wegner of Two Rivers; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Smith and Bernice Schwalbe of Manitowoc, Carol (Dan) Zachek of Two Rivers; two brothers-in-law, Roger Lubus and Dan (Donna) Lubus of Oconto, WI.

Preceding him in death are his wife and one infant sister.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on February 26, 2010 at Zion Covenant Church, 1125 N. Sixth St., Sheboygan. The Rev. Steve Pederson, Pastor, will officiate. Burial services will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Knollwood Memorial Park, 1500 Highway 310, Town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County. Friends my call at the church on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service.

The Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel, Cleveland, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established in Edward Wegner's name.
