Biography

David Weimer was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
David Weimer has German Roots.

David, son of Jacob Weimer and Anna Maria "Mary" Schuck, was born 5 December 1814 in Milford Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania.[1]

On 4 June 1837 in Milford Township, he married Catherine Hartman, daughter of Daniel Hartman and Elizabeth Lehmer.

  1. Franklin "Frank" Weimer[2][3][4][5] (b. 11 February 1838;[6][7] bapt. 9 June 1838;[8] m. Christina Marks;[7] d. 16 July 1919).[6][7]
  2. Daniel Henry Weimer[2][3][4] (b. 24 June 1839;[9] bapt. 27 October 1839;[8] m. Mary Barbara Sweitzer;[citation needed] d. 3 April 1866).[9]
  3. Susanna (Weimer) Walter[3][4] (b. 1 October 1840;[10] bapt. 25 July 1841;[8]
    m. Franklin Walter;[10] d. 22 January 1910).[10]
  4. Eliza Weimer[3][4][5] (b. 13 June 1842;[11] unmarried (or married and divorced); d. 29 August 1907).[11][12]
  5. Lydia I. (Weimer) Beck[3][4][5] (b. 18 March 1844;[13][14] bapt. 29 June 1844;[8] m. George Washington Beck;[13][14] d. 23 January 1932).[13][14]
  6. Samuel Austin Weimer[3][4] (b. 14 March 1846;[15] bapt. 5 July 1846;[8]
    m. Elvira B. Beck;[16][17] m. Almira O. Osborn;[18] d. 21 January 1915).[15][19]
  7. Lavina Catherine (Weimer) Beam[3][4] (b. 24 April 1848;[20] bapt. 6 August 1848;[8] m. John Taylor Beam;[20][21] d. 21 June 1931).[20][22]

The couple settled in Milford Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where they were enumerated in 1840,[2] 1850[3] and 1860.[4] In 1850, their land was valued at $200.[3] At that time the household consisted of David (age 36, farmer) and Catharine Weimer (34), and their children Franklin (12), Daniel Henry (11), Susanna "Susan" (9), Eliza (7), Lydia I. (6), Samuel Austin (4) and Lavina Catherine Weimer (2).[3] They lived next to Catherine's parents and siblings.[3]

The family must have fallen on hard times in the next decade. In 1860 they no longer owned land in Milford Township.[4] Still residing together were David S. (age 48, day laborer) and Catharine Weimer (44), and their children Franklin (21, day laborer), David H. [sic] (20, day laborer), Susannah (18), Eliza (16), Lydia (14), Samuel (12) and Lovinia Weimer (10).[4]

Before 1870, his son Frank (age 31, farmer) and his wife Lieny Wiemer (26) had ownership of land valued at $1,000 in Ligonier, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, which they shared with their children Nora (4) and Marylla Wiemer (1), as well as his parents David (54, retired farmer) and Catharine Wiemer (53), and their children Eliza Wiemer (20) and Lydia Beck (19).[5]

David died 1 June 1875 in Ligonier, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and was buried there at Old Ligonier Cemetery.[1]

Research Notes

  • Children: It is highly unlikely that Magdalena was the daughter of David Samuel and Catherine (Hartman) Weimer. There is no indication that either of them was ever farther west than Ligonier in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Additionally, she would be only about 12 in 1850, when she fails to appear on the census with David and Catherine.[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with David by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:
