• Rosa Weinberg Schwartz, 82, wife of Ramon Schwartz Jr., died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Milton Weinberg and Ethel Harper Weinberg. Mrs. Schwartz was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter where she was active for many years in the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and as a Sunday school teacher. She was a former President of the ECW Board for the Diocese of South Carolina. For numerous years, she spearheaded the pansy sales, the annual fundraiser for the ECW, and worked tirelessly with other church committees. In 1988, she was honored at a special Sunday worship service for her years of service to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and presented with an original painting of the church commissioned in her honor. Mrs. Schwartz was a graduate of Edmunds High School and Winthrop College. She was a member of the Junior Welfare League, numerous civic organizations, The Cotillion, The Trian Club and The Sumter Assembly. Surviving are her husband of Sumter; one daughter, Barbara Burchstead and husband Harry of Sumter; three sons, Ramon Schwartz III of Sumter, Milton Schwartz and wife Caren of Sumter, and Bill Schwartz and wife Meg of Columbia; one brother, Dr. Milton Weinberg of Lake Forest, Ill.; one sister, Ethel Flynt of Kernersville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Michael Burchstead, Matthew Burchstead, Sarah Burchstead, Hughes Schwartz, Reid Schwartz, Grier Schwartz, Maggie Schwartz and Page Schwartz.
