When Samuel Jackson Weir was born on December 27, 1830, in Cooper, Missouri, his father, Samuel, was 39 and his mother, Mary, was 33. He married Martha 'Mattie' Doak Wilson on February 10, 1858. They had 16 children; 10 still living in 1900. He died on April 8, 1928, in Greenfield, Missouri, at the age of 97, and was buried there.
