Research Notes
According to the family tree created by his great grandson ( James Weir), James was born in 1701.
This agrees with the libindx reference attached to James's birth and marriage, and rules out the original date of birth recorded in Weir-2945 which was revised in the merger of Weir-2945 and Weir-4547.
Weir-2945 was originally recorded as the father of Anna (Weir) Patterson (abt.1752-), and the merger resulted in Weir-2945 having two daughters named Anna Weir. There is no source for the marriage of Anna to Archibald Patterson, and the birth of her son John Patterson (1763-1834) when she would have been 11 years old is extremely unlikely.

I thought I'd put together a reply, but it seems to have disappeared!
1. Change James Weir's date of birth to 1701 - both because of his great-great nephew's "Genealogical Table" and because of the libindx.moray.go.uk record of his birth, his date of marriage, his wife's name and his parents' names.
2. Remove the baptism record for James Weir in this profile, because it refers to another James Weir, who was not born North of the Grampians, but in Culross which is geographically in Fife, although the parish was an exclave of Perth.
I'm having second thoughts about the recent merging of two James Weir entries.
I've reviewed my late father's history of the Weir family, which starts: "In 1964 my uncle John Hendry gave me a 'Weir Genealogical Table - from the time first ancestor born North of the Grampians." This had been compiled by his great-great-uncle, the Reverend James Weir (Weir-1659), who states quite clearly that his great grandfather was the first ancestor... (as above), which clearly rules out a James Weir who was born in Culross - well South of the Grampians, and 181 miles from Rathven, Banffshire, the site of James's wedding to Helen Clark.

There is also the source mentioned above: http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/people/people_report_view.asp?REF_ID=NM033611, which fits with a date of birth in 1701, his wife's name and place of birth, and his parents' names.
