Biography

The family of Benedict Weiss can be traced in the book History of Lehigh county, Pennsylvania and a genealogical and biographical record of its families. It is important to understand the connection of the Holbe(n) when reading about the family.

Benedict was born about 1697 in Alsace France and died in 1757 Weisenberg Pennsylvania. Baptism records are available to paid Ancestry Customers.

Benedict came to America with his Wife Barbara and Children (Maria Margaretha Weiss, Joh. Jacob Weiss, Anna Magdalena Weiss, Eva Barbara Weiss and Johann Peter Weiss) on the Ship Rainer in 1733. He was counted on the Census for Philadelphia 1733 and again in 1749. These censuses are public records.

He died in Weisenberg PA, where his last Will and Testament is listed with the county, and interestingly has Silverster Hobe(n) as a witness. Silverster is the father to Elizabeth Holbe(n) who marries Benedict's son, Joh. Peter.

A Land Warrant Receipt has him purchasing land in Philadelphia. Unfortunately no information on location could be discerned from the receipt. However, Berks Co was formed out of Philadelphia Co. and Berks County butts up against Weisenberg Township, this could account for his final resting place.
