Biography

Black Sea Germans
Christine (Weisser) Eckman was a Black Sea German.

Birth

Christine was born on March 10, 1881 in the village of Kassel in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Matthaeus Weisser and Catharina (Hieb) Weisser. She was the tenth of their 12 children. Christine was baptized on March 22, 1881.[1]


Family

In 1901, at the age of 20, Christine married Friedrich Eckman (1879-1951).[2]

Immigration

On April 1, 1903, at the age of 22, Christine and her husband's family arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse traveling from Bremen, Germany.[3]


Death

On March 7, 1956, at the age of 74, Christine passed away in McIntosh County, ND. She is buried in Saint Luke Cemetery in Wishek, ND.[4][5]

Brent Goodman (6/27/2021): Marriage date is uncertain, but happened prior to 1903, when she was listed as a wife to Frederick Eckman in the immigration ship manifest.
