Biography

Ann is the second child of twelve children born to Colonel John Welborn and his wife Sarah York in Colonial Guilford (now Randolph) County, North Carolina. Ann at age nineteen married her neighbor John Crabtree White, Sr. in 1795 in the Sandy Creek Baptist Church Community, Randolph County, North Carolina.

Ann and John started a family of seven children in the Sandy Creek Community of eastern Randolph Carolina. The children are:

1. James Lawson White; b. 1798 NC; d. 1854 AL. 2. Sarah "Sally" Jane White; b. 1799 NC, 1819 AL. 3. John Thomas White; b. 1802 NC; d. 1845 AL. 4. Welborn Crabtree White; b. 1805 NC; d. 1887 AL. 5. Jane White, b. 1807 NC; d. 1860 AL. 6. Ann White, b. 1809 NC; d. 1845 AL 7. John Crabtree White, Jr.; b. 1810 NC; d. ? AL

By 1819 Ann Welborn and John Crabtree White loaded all seven children and their possessions for long trip to pioneer the territory of Alabama. Most likely they were a part of a covered wagon train of several families that migrated into the newly created state of Alabama. These pioneers first settled in Coffeeville, Clarke County, Alabama. By the 1840's they migrated into southeastern Pike County, Alabama perhaps in search of better farm land and a new church home.

There is no known tombstone for Ann but it is highly probable that she is buried next to her husband. Perhaps she only has a field stone for a marker in the Hopewell Community Cemetery, Henderson, Pike County, Alabama.[1]
