He and his family arrived In Mississippi between 1832 and 1836 this is supported by the birth location of his daughter, Kiziah Caroline Welborn who was born about 1837 in Mississippi as shown in the 1850 Census records. [2][3]

In her book The Free State of Jones, Movie Edition: Mississippi's Longest Civil War , Victoria E. Bynum states the following offering source information [3] from the Union Army Pension Records. [11]
Younger Sr and Elizabeth Welborn moved from South Carolina to Mississippi around 1832. By 1839 they had move to Jasper County. According to family sources and documents, Turner and Younger Welborn Jr -- sons of William (Billy) and Sarah Welborn and their cousins William Elbert and Tolbert sons of Younger Sr and Elizabeth Welborn joined the Knight Company during the Civil War. William Elbert and Tolbert lager joined the Union army in New Orleans.
On page 158: "Newt Knight and Serena's children married white partners and given that three of them were grandchildren of Younger Welborn Sr., suggest that distant kinship with Serena and shared bonds with Newt .. overrode some Welborn's disapproval of Newt's post war behavior. " Mary E Welborn and Sarah E Welborn -daughters of Aaron Terrel Welborn - married Ted Knight and Joseph Sullivan Knight in 1878 & 1880. Ulyses Grant Welborn, son of Caroline Welborn married Susan Knight in 1888.[3]
