Mr. Welch
Dr. Doyle W. Welch, 77, of Copperas Cove died June 16, 2011, in a Copperas Cove nursing home.
Funeral services were June 20 at First Baptist Church of Copperas Cove with Dr. Mark Kemp officiating. Burial was at North Santo Cemetery in Santo.
Mr. Welch was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Weatherford, the son of Doyle S. and Iona B. Hamilton Welch.
He married Melba Jo Noonkester in Portales, N.M., on June 28, 1951, and they were married almost 60 years.
Mr. Welch was a member of First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove. He was a past master of Santo Masonic Lodge #836 A.F. & A.M., a Shriner, a Welch Foundation Board member, a member of the Copperas Cove Quarterback Club, the Copperas Cove Lions Club and America's Drug Free Productions.
Mr. Welch earned his doctorate of theology. He enjoyed sports, was an All-State basketball player, and later was a basketball official. He officiated several games in the Southwest Conference.
He also played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers organization.
Survivors include his wife of Copperas Cove; three sons and their wives, Gary Wendell and Faith Welch, Jackie Steve "Jack" and Carol Welch, and Tracy Doyle and Sheri Welch, all of Copperas Cove; two brothers, Carol Duane Welch of Keller, and Ronnie Gerard Welch of Baird; and six grandchildren, Joshua Doyle Welch, Steven Lee Welch, Daniel Russell, Kaylee Joleen Welch, Caleb Thomas Welch and Matthew Hunter Welch.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jo Daniel; and by a grandchild, Chad Evan Welch.
Pallbearers were Joshua Doyle Welch, Steven Lee Welch, Daniel Russell, Caleb Welch, Glynn Powell, Jim Copeland, Dale Ables and Mike Wilburn.
