Mary Ann was born on 23 October 1827[1] presumably near Dover, Kent, England. No record of her baptism has yet been found. She was the first daughter of William Welch and Ann Read.
Mary (Welch) Wrigley migrated from England to New Zealand.
She emigrated with her parents[2] and six siblings on the Oriental, the first of the Wakefield ships to leave England on 15 September 1839. They arrived on 31 January 1840 at Port Nicholson, New Zealand.
She married Thomas Gillian Wrigley on 10 December 1846 at the Wesleyan Church, Bridge Town, River Hutt, with the Rev. S. Ironside performing the ceremony[3]. They had seven children.
