Biography

Sarah Welch was born about 1797 in North Carolina and her father was born in Ireland. She passed away March 18, 1887. Sarah is the wife of Jesse Maynard Sr . Sarah and Jesse had 6 children together. She was laid to rest in Queens Ridge Cemetery in Dunlow, West Virginia.[1]

During the 1860 US Census:

Jesse Mainard, age 70, was living in Wayne, Virginia with his wife, Sally Mainard, age 64, and

Absolem Mainard, son, age 19

Dwelling #1039 Family #1031, race: white. Jesse and Sarah were born in North Carolina and Absolom in Virginia. Jesse's occupation is Farmer, Sally is a Domestic, Absolem is Farm Laborer. Jesse's real estate is valued at $200 and his personal estate at $70. Jesse is a person over age 20 that cannot read and write.

During the 1880 US Census:

John Mainard, age 47, was living in Grant, Wayne, West Virginia, with his wife, Jane Mainard, age 40, and their children

Welch-4384 and Welch-9481 appear to represent the same person because: Dates are close but the birth place is different. Wayne County Virginia was hostile Indian country in1793.
