Biography

Samuel was born in 1823. Occupation: Farmer. He passed away in 1900. Obituary: "Samuel Weldy died at home in Pleasant Valley Twp. [Johnson Co. Iowa] at 2 am Mar 1, 1900 of an illness of several months duration. He was born in Ohio 76 years ago and has lived in Iowa for the past 36 years. Funeral Sat. Mar. 3, 1900 from family residence. Internment at Oakland Cemetery Iowa City, Iowa.". It is R.N.W.'s opinion that Samuel changed the spelling of his name from Welday to Weldy before he moved to Iowa because all his children were born in Ohio and their name was spelled Weldy. Samuel and his father were probably lured to Iowa, like others, to homestead land.
