Biography

Rebecca Weller, daughter of Rebecca (Travis) and Seneca (or Senecca) Weller (or Wellar), was born on June 13, 1842.[1] By the age of 10, her father had already died and she was living with her mother and older siblings in King Township.[2] Census data indicates that Rebecca was of Irish or English descent.[3][4][5][6] As of the 1861 Census, Rebecca was 18 and living with her mother and older brothers, Nelson, a farmer, and John.[7]

On January 21, 1863, Rebecca, 20, married Robert Hollingshead, 22, son of Anthony & Ann Hollingshead, also of King.[1][8] Their marriage was solemnized by Reverend Henry Bath Osler of [1][2] in Lloydtown in King Township.[8] As of the date of the 1871 Census, Rebecca was living in King Township with her husband, now a carpenter/joiner and their 3 children.[3]

For the 1881 Census, her husband, Robert, was noted as being the enumerator for their local area.[4] At that time, she was living with Robert, their children (Arthur Wellington, William Robert, Nelson Thomas, and Frank Albert), and her mother, Rebecca Wellar, however they were now living in Vaughan Township.[4] Robert was the enumerator for the 1891 Census in his local area again.[9] At that time, Robert's occupation was noted as "Retail General Store & Postmaster" and they were living in Vaughan Township with 3 of their sons.[9] By the date of the 1901 Census, Robert had become an undertaker and they were living in Vaughan Township with their son, Frank.[5]

As of the date of the 1911 Census, Robert's occupation was noted as Postmaster and they were living with their son, Frank, in Vaughan Township.[6] Rebecca died from diabetes in Kleinburg on December 18 or 19, 1912 and was buried with an unnamed infant daughter in the Wesleyan Methodist Church cemetery, now known as Kleinburg Cemetery in Kleinburg, Ontario.[1] [10]
