  • 1900:- Joseph Charles WELLINGTON commences school at Cullompton; Born, 20 April 1897; Parent, Frederic James.
  • 1911:- Cullompton; WELLINGTON, Frederick James, 38 years, Chemist Porter; Ann, 38 years; Joseph Charles, 14 years, Grocer's Errand Boy; Florence May, 12 years, at School; Sarah Ann, 10 years, at School; Violet, 8 years, at School; Louisa, 6 years, at School; Eli John, 5 years, at School; Frank, 4 years, at School; Frederick, 2 years; Doris, 5 months. (Frederick and Ann have been married 16 years: 10 children born/9 alive).
  • 1919:- first marriage to Elsie Evelyn Coward at Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales.
  • 1937: Joseph's wife, Elsie Evelyn, passes away in February at the age of 46 years.

  • 1945, November:- Food Control Committee; Committee for 1946 will be composed as follows:- (among many others); on the recommendation of the Barnstaple and District New Co-operative Society Limited - Joseph Charles Wellington, 50 High Street.
  • 1949, 31 December:- Joseph passes away in the North Devon Infirmary.
  • 1950:- Death of Mr. J. C. Wellington; Mr. Joseph Charles Wellington of High street, Barnstaple, who had been manager of Barnstaple and District New Co operative Society since 1942, died early on Saturday. He had been ill for some months and his condition seemed to be improving when in a relapse he was taken to the North Devon Infirmary where he died. Mr. Wellington, who was 52, was born at Cullompton, but lived in South Wales for about twenty years, before returning to his native country in 1932. He was manager of Ashburton Co-operative Society for ten years, before going to Barnstaple. The Barnstaple Society grew considerably during the period Mr. Wellington was manager. The new Sticklepath branch was opened and a butchery department was inaugurated. Mr. Wellington leaves a widow and a daughter, Mrs. M Bourne, of Exeter.
