Biography

Wilfred Wellington was born in the Colony of Queensland (1859-1900)

Wilfred was born in 1893. He was the son of Joshua Wellington and Winifred Ellis.[1]

  • 1917:- Townsville, January 15. Mr. Wilfred Edgar Wellington, son of Mr. J. Wellington of Ravenswood, was married on New Year's Day at Duchess to Miss Alice Muriel Mather, daughter of Mr. T. J. Mather, of Winton.
  • 1917:- Kennedy Electorate - Boulia Sub-division; Wellington, Wilfred Edgar ... Duchess ... Miner.
  • 1919 - 1921:- Kennedy - Boulia; Wellington, Wilfred Edgar ... Mascotte Mine ... Miner.

27th March 1947:- Home Hill; It is with regret we report the death of Mr. Wilfred (Bill) Wellington, which took place at the Home Hill Hospital on Tuesday last, 17th, at the age of 54 years. Deceased was a member of a well known Ravenswood family, most of whom came to the Burdekin district following the decline in the mining industry. In his early youth he took an active interest in football, being a member of the Ravenswood Imperials, minor-junior premiers in 1908, and Imperial junior premiers of 1909. The late Mr. James Watson was president of this club. Coming to Home Hill some 25 years ago the late Mr. Wellington took part in many games here and was a member of the League Executive for several terms. He followed mining at Ravenswood and in the far west prior to taking up work in the sugar industry. Unfortunately the mining industry had taken its toll and during the past few years deceased had faced the situation with courage and cheerfulness and his family and many friends stood loyally by him to the end. He was a man highly respected by his fellow men and his passing will be regretted by all who knew him. He was a member of the R.A.O.B., the members of which officiated as pall-bearers. The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, where there was a fine representative attendance of citizens, the R.A.O.B. members preceding the cortege through the cemetery gates to the graveside. Rev. Innes conducted an impressive service at the graveside. He is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Laverack (Muriel), of Townsville, Beryl and Bernice and two sons, Wilfred (ex-member of the A.I.F.), and Keith.[2]

Wilfred was born in 1893. He passed away about 1947.
