Hi Burghard,

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700-era profiles, such as Voigt-1112 and Otten-901, without adding sources. This is a reminder that certifying to work on these types of profiles means that you agree to add valid sources at the time of profile creation, as outlined in the Pre-1700 Certification Quiz.

If you need help with this, our G2G Forum is a great place to start. You can get there by clicking the link on the Help menu.

Thanks for your help with this, Francesca

Thank you Francesca!

I am aware of that pre-1700 profiles should have valid sources. The source I supplied had stamped/verified copies from the original sources. I thought that would be sufficiant. Please let me know how I can describe my source better so that there will be no misunderstandings!

Hi Burghard,

On the page "Resources for German Genealogy Research" (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Germany_Project_Resources) there is a section on reliable sources at point 2.3. That should be of help.

And when in doubt, you can also get in touch with the Germany Project or ask questions on G2G. In this case, make sure to add tags to your question to maximize the help you get on G2G.

Good luck with your research! Francesca

Hi, Burghard

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Thank you Sheryl!

I understand the importance of a primary source in all profiles, but especially as they go further back in time. In this very case I have a source that is documented and copied from the primary source. So, I think this is ok.

Sincerely Burghard

Your note is music to my ears, and happy you use primary sources. As a greeter, we post this reminder and are glad you now work on your Pre-1700 ancestors, helping improve profiles in this timeframe.

Enjoy your day, Sheryl

Hello again Burghard,

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.
