Note NI0730At the time of John's baptism the family were living at Great Prospect Row. His father Thomas was a carpenter.
Probate dated 18 December 1863 for John, formerly of Herbert Place but late of Wingfield Street in Landport, a Carpenter and Joiner who died on 14 February 1856 at Infirmary (believed to be Royal Hospital, Commercial Road). Probate proved by Oath of Alfred Crow of 58 Arundel Street (occupation Joiner in HM Dockyard), the only surviving Executor. Effects £20.00.
Note: It is believed John was very ill for some 18 months prior to his death with a distressing and painful brain disease. The reason for the delay in proving the Will (7 years) is not known.

Thomas Wells of the Parish of Kingston and Sally Churcher of the Parish of Hambledon were married in this Church by Banns this fourth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight by me Wm Stevens Bayton curate. This Marriage was solemnized between Us: (both have signed their names) in the Presence of : William J Caise(?), Wm Padwick (both signed).
