Elizabeth Shepherd^{[citation needed]} Wells was born c. 1810 to 1813 at Wise County, Virginia, a daughter of William Wells and Susan Ward.^{[citation needed]}

Elizabeth's birth date is estimated based on her age given as 40 years in the 1850 Census^[1] and as 43 years on 5 Aug 1856, the date of her 2nd marriage.^[2]

Marriages

Elizabeth married twice.

• She married, as her 1st, to Mortimer Creech.
• She married on 05 Aug 1856 at Wise County, as her 2nd, to William Blanton (b 1800 Lee Co).

1850 Census

The 1850 Census found Elizabeth living in Lee County, Virginia, 40 years old, with her mother, Susan Wells 74 y/o and Elizabeth's children: Sampson Creech 19 y/o, Susan Creech 16 y/o, William Creech 13 y/o, Jonathan Crech 10 y/o, and Elijah Creech 9 y/o. All were born in Virginia.^[1]

Death and Legacy

Elizabeth died in 1880 at Virginia.^{[citation needed]}

Research Notes

Birth Date: Transcription of the Blanton Family Record from the William Blanton Bible reports that Elizabeth Creech was born on 2 Oct 1807.^[3]

Children Some attribute the Blanton children listed in the William Blantion Bible to Elizabeth's 2nd marriage to William Blanton:

• Rosanna Blanton b 9 Nov 1858,
• Amanda E. Blanton 6 Jun 1861,
• Isaac F. Blanton 26 Jan 1863,
• Sara Evaline Blanton 26 Apr 1865,
• Lorra Bell Blanton 6 Jun 1866,
• James F. Blanton 12 Mar 1869.

However, it seems more likely these were grandchildren. In order for these to have been children of Elizabeth (Wells), she would have been 57 years old when the youngest was born. In addition, two of the names were already used for children of William Blanton's first marriage: John and Isaac.
