Biography

On July 2, 1754, in the Old Sweeds Church, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Priscilla Wells married William Morgan. [1]

During the American Revolutionary War, William Morgan, Sr. became a Corporal in Berkeley county, Virginia. He is DAR Ancestor #A080640. William died April 1, 1795, in Berkeley county, Virginia. Priscilla wrote her Will after her husband's death, on March 1, 1803 and it was probated April 9, 1805, in Jefferson county, Virginia. [2] Children of Priscilla and William (named in her Will) include:

  • Margaret Morgan, born 1765
  • William Morgan, II 1769-1816
  • Elizabeth Morgan, born May 21, 1769, died July 31, 1801, in Shepherdstown, Jefferson county, West Virginia, married Isaac Kroesen
  • Andrew Morgan, born August 14, 1774, in Shepherdstown, Virginia, died March 8, 1849, in Washington, Pennsylvania, married Elizabeth Kinsell (parents of fourteen children.

Priscilla (Wells) Morgan is buried in the Old Episcopal Graveyard, on North Church Street, Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, West Virginia. [3] Note: This area was part of Virginia, until the American Civil War, when West Virginia broke away from Virginia and became a state on June 20, 1863.

Will of Priscilla Wells Morgan

In the name of God, Amen.

I Priscilla Morgan of Jefferson County and Commonwealth of Virginia, being weak in body and of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for his mercies, and knowing that all men must die do make and ordain this my last will and testament revoking and disannulling all former wills & testaments and acknowledging this and this only as my last will and testament.

Impremis: I leave my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to be burried, with Christian decency at the discretion of my executor & executrix hereafter named and as to my worldly estate with which it has pleased Almighty God to bless me I will that my burial charges & Just debt be first paid & discharged.

Item: I will and bequeath unto my oldest son William Morgan the sum of one dollar in specie to him & his heirs forever which will be fully equal to my share.

I leave to any of my other children, hereafter named, considering the advantages he hath received from me since the death of his father.

Item: I will and bequeath unto my son Andrew Morgan my negro man Named Bon & Rebecca's son named Sam to him and his heirs & assigns forever and also I will & bequeath unto my said son Andrew Morgan, Rebecca's other son named George to him and his heirs & assigns forever provided the said George shall not be sold in my lifetime and it is further also my will and decree and I do hereby direct to be discharged or cancelled all bonds notes and accounts whatsoever after my decease.

Item: I will & bequeath to my daughter Margaret Morgan my late negro woman's Rebecca's son named Tom to her and her heirs & assigns forever. Also I will & bequeath unto my said daughter, Margaret Morgan my house & Lot which I now possess or own in Shepherdstown., situate on German street in said town to her and her heirs & assigns forever provided the said house & lot shall remain unsold at my decease and I also do bequeath unto my said daughter Margaret Morgan the one half of my personal estate not herein before disposed of and the other half of my personal estate not herin before disposed as aforesaid, I will and bequeath unto my grand-daughter, Priscilla Banes her heirs and assigns forever.

Item: And lastly I do constitute and appoint my beloved Andrew Morgan and my beloved Margaret Morgan my executor & my executrix to this my last will and testament, hereby ratifying & confirming this only as my last will and testament.

At a court held for Jefferson County the 9th day of April, 1805, this last will and testament of Priscilla Morgan dec'd was proved by the oaths of Barnhard Miller and John Morrow two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Andre Morgan the executor therein named who made oath thereto according to law certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form giving security. whereupon he together with James Kerney and James Nixon his securities entered into and acknowledged bond with penalty of one thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs.
